We asked our Governors to introduce themselves and describe why they decided to join our Governing Body.
I have been a Governor with Haughton School since 2013 and currently hold the position as Chair of Governors. As a Local Authority appointed governor, the opportunity has given me a very good insight into the work of the school, the governance, and more importantly the families and children. I have seen some great changes with Haughton School over the years and am very proud to be involved.
I have an adult son who is on the Autistic Spectrum, has ADHD and associated learning difficulties and a daughter who is at university.
My experiences of co-founding PODS Charity, and now leading the Parent Carer Forum has given me a great insight into co-production and the importance of working together and listening to families of children with SEND.
I'm approachable, a good listener, have supported various charities over my years and I'm a great believer in parent carer involvement and participation.
My name is Emma Eadie and I am Staff Governor at Haughton. I love my job, I enjoy coming to work every day and feel an enormous sense of pride and belonging when I come in each morning. I am committed to my role at Haughton and am excited to be part of the governing body as a voice to support the ongoing development for all of the children and families we serve. I understand that being a school governor is a great responsibility and I am aware that I will need to act with transparency and integrity at all times which is something I have always prided myself on.
I have been a teacher for 20 years, this is my fourth year at Haughton and I am sure there will be many more. I am excited to see how the school develops to meet new challenges. I think Haughton is a really special school that is run by a dedicated team of people and I hope that my experiences will be useful as part of that team. I am both an experienced teacher that has worked in a wide range of settings and I support my partner in the parenting of a child with SEND at home so understand those two different perspectives and I hope this will help me in this role. I am passionate about education and supporting our children to reach their full potential and feel that I will be a supportive voice on the governing body.
I became a Parent Governor because I have a son at the school and I care deeply about making sure children with additional needs feel supported, understood and happy in their learning. Being part of the school community as a parent gives me a real insight into how important it is for families to feel listened to and involved.
I have over 18 years’ experience working in the NHS, where I’ve developed strong communication skills and a good understanding of teamwork and safeguarding.
As a Governor, I bring both my professional experience and my lived experience as a parent of an autistic child attending Haughton.
I aim to be approachable and supportive, while also asking thoughtful questions and helping ensure decisions are always made with the children’s best interests at heart. I’m proud to be part of the Governing Body and to support the fantastic work the school does for its pupils and families.
