How we link in with other schools for children joining and leaving Haughton

Children joining our school

All children are placed at our school via Telford & Wrekin Council SEND Team.  Prior to the placement being agreed we follow a process that includes visits to the child’s current placement (or home if prior to compulsory starting date). Once placement has been agreed an induction process is followed in order to ensure that the children transfer to our school as smoothly as possible.  The transition is individually based depending upon the needs of the child but in principle will include further visits by our school staff to the current setting, a home visit by our staff, opportunities for meetings with parents at the school, visits for the children to our school for at least 2-3 sessions prior to joining us.  Some children require a more detailed transition process than this.  All children are provided with a social story explaining their transfer.  For children joining us at the start of the academic year there is also an Induction Evening for parents and children which is held at the beginning of July.

Children leaving our school

The vast majority of our children progress to Southall School at the end of KS2.  There may be a small number of children who progress to different specialist settings or mainstream schools (Mount Gilbert, Queensway HLC, The Bridge, or Independent Specialist Provision).

We work closely with all settings to ensure appropriate induction and preparation for a smooth transfer.  This will involve a minimum transition process of 1 day per week into the new setting.
